Terms of Use

1. Agreement and eligibility

These Terms of Use govern your use of Pgnify: Chess Analysis & Stats (the "App"), operated by Restart Apps. By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

You must be at least 18 years old to use Pgnify.

2. Educational chess analysis

Pgnify provides educational post-game analysis using the local Arasan chess engine. Engine conclusions depend on the search configuration, available device resources, and the positions analyzed. Some uncertain positions may have no coaching claim.

Evaluation scores, top engine moves, move ratings, accuracy figures, and progress summaries are estimates from time-limited local searches. They can change with search time, device, and engine version, and they may differ from other engines or from human judgment. In Practice, the expected answer comes from each game's saved analysis; another move may also count when the live engine rates it within 0.3 pawns of its first choice.

The App highlights selected practical moments. It does not promise exhaustive analysis, error-free conclusions, tournament results, or a particular rating improvement. You remain responsible for how you use the analysis.

3. Public games and PGN imports

Pgnify can retrieve publicly available Chess.com games for a public username and can import PGN text or files you choose. Import only games and files that you may lawfully access and use. Public game availability, completeness, and freshness depend on Chess.com and network access.

Pgnify and Restart Apps are independent of Chess.com, FIDE, Wikidata, Wikimedia, Wikipedia, and the Arasan engine authors. References to those services or projects do not imply sponsorship or endorsement. Local analysis and saved games remain available when a refresh fails.

4. Local data and availability

Games, reviews, favorites, settings, and review-unlock receipts are stored locally. Pgnify does not offer an app account or app-operated cloud sync. You are responsible for keeping any copies you need. Removing the App or clearing its data removes local content and unlock receipts; an iOS system backup may restore local data, while Android app backup is disabled.

Features that depend on public APIs, portrait hosts, advertising services, or network access may be delayed, changed, limited, or unavailable without notice.

5. Optional rewarded ads

A rewarded ad is an optional choice. A native earned-reward confirmation opens the selected game's full review for that visit. Opening the review again later asks for another optional ad; the game and its saved analysis stay on your device either way.

Dismissing an ad, or an ad that fails to load, does not grant a reward. Earned rewards are recorded locally as receipts, but a saved receipt does not provide permanent review access. Practice positions and progress summaries use games whose reviews you have unlocked at least once. Removing local data removes those receipts.

6. No purchases, subscriptions, or accounts

The current version does not offer subscriptions, in-app purchases, a Pro plan, a cloud account, or online chess play. An optional rewarded ad is not a purchase and does not create a transferable or cloud-backed entitlement.

7. Third-party content, software, and links

Public ratings, biographies, portraits, flags, game records, links, and other third-party material remain subject to their owners' rights, licenses, terms, and policies. Attribution and license information is shown in the App, including under Settings, Credits and licenses. Open-source components are used under their own licenses, which also apply to those components.

We do not control or guarantee third-party content, services, advertisements, websites, or their continued availability.

8. Acceptable use and intellectual property

Use the App lawfully. Do not attempt unauthorized access, interfere with the App or its data providers, evade service or advertising controls, misuse public player information, or misrepresent Pgnify as an official service of a third party.

Pgnify's original design, code, branding, and content are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Third-party names, marks, engine code, data, photographs, and other materials remain the property of their respective owners or licensors.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of accuracy, completeness, uninterrupted availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the extent permitted by law, Restart Apps is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, opportunities, or results arising from use of the App, reliance on analysis, or third-party outages. Nothing in these Terms limits rights or liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Changes and contact

We may improve, change, or discontinue features and revise these Terms. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required. Continued use after revised Terms take effect means you accept them.
